ABSTRACT

The December 2008 ice storm was devastating to New England and upstate New York. Tree damage clogged flowing streams and drainage ditches creating potential for increase in mosquito habitat. The Central Mass. Mosquito Control Project coordinated and conducted a two phased project involving intricate drainage ditch maintenance and stream cleaning project. This project highlights the cooperation between the two mosquito control projects, two municipalities, the regulatory community and an extensive field crew. The project implements Massachusetts Best Management Practices for Freshwater Mosquito Control and also complies with an Order of Conditions issued under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act.
